Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare Supplement plans are designed to help pay some of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like deductibles and copayments. Usually these plan offer flexibility with little restriction to doctors and hospital choices. Most also include prescription coverage.
Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage Plans (like an HMO or PPO) are another way to get your Medicare coverage. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you still have Medicare. You’ll get your hospital and medical coverage from these plans that are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. These options usually offer more cost effective alternatives that use networks of doctors and hospitals. Usually they also include prescription coverage.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are also offered by private companies approved by Medicare. There are 2 ways to get these plans. 1.) As a standalone plan added to original Medicare. 2.) Included with a Medicare Advantage Plan sometimes called “MA-PDs.”
